Toolkit Item 25 Public health nursing Named Person resource

This resource is a graphic representation of the actual chart which is available to all public health nurses within their health centres and should be used in conjunction with the Red Book.

The Getting it right for every child well-being growth chart is designed as a generic tool to strengthen the relationship between public health services and parents/carers. The purpose of the tool is as follows:

• to act as a resource to help public health nurses to introduce the concept of well-being to parents and carers
• to gradually increase the knowledge and understanding of all parents about the necessity to actively develop children’s well-being
• to serve as an aid to maintaining the connection between public health nurses with families when regular contact is not necessary. The resource is less likely to get lost if it is permanently pinned to the wall
• to reinforce the concept of the Named Person in universal services, in this case the public health nurse
• to provide a colourful and stimulating wall decoration to encourage children to participate in their growth and development milestones.

This resource may be of interest to other areas in Scotland to reproduce or to assist with similar resources.
